Who Was Jesus?

Our historical study of Jesus continues this coming Wednesday, March 10, at 7:00P as we discuss the Second Coming of Christ.  The Second Coming is perhaps one of the most confusing and controversial beliefs of the Church.  It is often used as a way of separating 'true believers' from 'heretics.'  Don't just accept what somebody else told you about this subject.  Instead, come to gain information which will help you understand it for yourself.  (Please note: our regular Wednesday and Thursday night groups are taking a short break to enable more people to attend this workshop series.)

New Members' Class

Have you ever wondered what membership at MCC Winston-Salem means?  What it entails?  What additional privileges and responsibilities members have?  The best way to get answers to these questions is to attend our New Members' Class on Tuesday, March 23, at 6:30PM.  A light dinner will be provided.

During this class we will look at the history of our local church and our larger denomination and explore all that membership means.  Coming to the class does not obligate you to join.  In fact, the class is set up to help you discern whether or not membership is right for you.  For more information, or to reserve your place, please see Sue or Pastor Ron.

Lenten Mission Project

Throughout the season of Lent we are collecting donations for Senior Services, Inc., a local agency that meets the needs of senior citizens in our community.  Senior Services, Inc. serves about 2,600 hundred senior adults in need each year.  A majority of their clients are at or below poverty level.  Following is a list of items they can use right away to give to their clients:

·      Adult diapers: large and extra-large

·      Incontinence pads

·      Blue underpads

·      Diaper ointment

·      Nutritional supplements such as Boost and Ensure

·      Large Ace bandages

·      Smoke detectors with batteries

·      Wipes

·      Latex gloves

Want to help out but don't have enough money?  Maybe you can participate by providing supplies for their Williams Adult Day Center with purchases that can be made at the Dollar Store.  Particular items the Day Center needs include:

·      Napkins (160) in a pack

·      Straws (180) in a pack, unwrapped

·      Small size dessert plates

·      Cereal bowls

·      Styrofoam cups - 8 oz.

·      Hand sanitizer

·      Hand soap

Please bring your donations to church any Sunday between now and Easter and place them in the giant Easter Basket.  Let us come together to help care for some of the more vulnerable people of our community.

Call for By-laws Amendments

At the request of some of our members, the Board of Directors (BOD) has called a Special Congregational Meeting for Sunday, April 25, at 12:30PM for the purpose of considering By-laws amendments.  All members are welcome to submit proposed amendments for consideration at the meeting.  Proposed amendments must be submitted to the BOD no later than March 28.  To receive a copy of the procedures for submitting an amendment, or if you would like a copy of our current By-laws, please see Pastor Ron or any other member of the BOD.

Faith and Fairness - A Town Hall Meeting

The Faith and Fairness Town Hall meeting, sponsored by the Human Rights Campaign, is an opportunity for people from various faith communities to come together and talk about how faith intersects with the issues surrounding sexual orientation.  The event will be held on Thursday, March 18, at First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, 617 N. Elm Street.  There will be a reception from 5:00-6:00PM and a panel discussion from 6:00-8:00PM.  All are invited.

Generosity In Giving

When we think of generosity, we might look at the size of the gift or the nobility of the cause. But Jesus measured generosity by a radically new standard: the condition of the giver's heart. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21).

So, giving is more than an obligation for followers of Christ; it is an exciting opportunity to lay up treasure that will last for all eternity. "The Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive' " (Acts 20:35b).

Statistics show that during the Great Depression, Christians gave more, in proportion to their income, than we do now. So, when giving, first open your heart, then your purse.

If you haven't been able to make it to church lately and would like to mail your offering in, please mail to:
