ANNOUNCEMENTS

Call for Prayer
On
Saturday, January 28, the Board of Directors will go into an all-day
retreat to discern the steps we as a church need to take as we strive to
fulfill the visions which emerged through To Infinity ... and Beyond! We
are calling on all the people of MCCWS to uphold the retreat and its
participants in prayer during a 10 Hour Prayer Vigil. The goal is to
have ten continuous hours of prayer covering the entire time the Board
is in retreat. People have been signing up to commit to praying during
particular blocks of time, but you can participate even without signing
up. On January 28, please set aside some time between 8:00A and 6:00P to
pray for the retreat and the Board. No need to come to the church; you
can pray wherever you are. Let us all support our church through prayer.
5th Sunday Potluck
This Sunday, January 29, is the 5th Sunday of the month. This means it's
time for our regular 5th Sunday Potluck. If you are able, please bring a
dish to share. Even if you are not able to bring something to share,
please be sure to stay after worship for a time of food and fellowship.
Special 2nd Offering Sunday
Rev. Wanda Floyd, Pastor of Congregational Life at St. John's MCC in
Raleigh, is spending the weekend with MCC Winston-Salem. Rev. Floyd is
leading the Board retreat on Saturday (see "Call for Prayer"
announcement above) and will be our guest preacher on Sunday. To show
our appreciation for all of the time she is spending with and for our
church, this Sunday, January 29, we will take up a special love
offering. Please come prepared to offer a gift of gratitude.
A New Year - A New You
Want
to get both your body and your church healthier? Then a program is
coming up which is just for you! Beginning February 5 and running until
May 5, the people of MCCWS will make themselves healthier by losing
weight and/or increasing walking. These same people will make the church
healthier by gathering sponsors for each pound lost or each mile walked
with the proceeds benefitting the ministries of the church. If you want
to participate, or if you simply want more information, come to the
program launch on February 5 following worship.
Board Notes
In
accordance with bylaws, at its January 17 meeting the Board of Directors
elected officers for the year. Those serving as official officers of the
church for 2012 are: Ron LaRocque, Moderator; Sandy MacRae, Vice
Moderator; CeeCee Royer, Clerk; and Lisa McClamrock, Treasurer.

obligations are now available. A limited number of paper copies will be

Generosity In Giving
When we think of generosity, we
might look at the size of the
gift or the nobility of the
cause. But Jesus measured
generosity by a radically new
standard: the condition of the
giver's heart. "For
where your treasure is, there
your heart will be also"
(Matthew 6:21).
So, giving is more than an
obligation for followers of
Christ; it is an exciting
opportunity to lay up treasure
that will last for all eternity.
"The Lord Jesus himself said:
'It
is more blessed to give than to
receive' " (Acts
20:35b).
Statistics show that during the
Great Depression, Christians
gave more, in proportion to
their income, than we do now.
So, when giving, first open your
heart, then your purse.
If you haven't been able to make
it to church lately and would
