History of MCC of Winston-Salem.

The conception of MCC of Winston-Salem occurred on August 28th 1994 at a prayer vigil in the home of Bob Horton.  That evening Bob Horton, Tom Fisher, Larry Riley and Larry Varner met with Jack McConnell officially for the first time at this gathering Jack McConnell Agreed to be the worship coordinator for the church.  Bob’s home, later called the Parish House, served as a meeting place for services.  The first service was held September 4th 1994.

In mid- September of 1994, thirty three people gathered and collected signatures to petition the Gulf Lower Atlantic District (GLAD) of UFMCC to establish this group as a “new works” church through UFMCC.  Larry Varner, Tom Fisher and Thad Fulk agreed to serve on a temporary advisory board until a formal congregational meeting could be held to elect a Board of Directors.

In October of 1994, Rev. Jay Neely, the UFMCC District Coordinator of GLAD conducted services with forty-six people in attendance.  By mid-October UFMCC had approved the group’s petition for a “New Works” Church, and a new location for services had been found to meet the needs of a growing congregation.

In late November of that year, a committee was formed to seek permanent facilities and their efforts were quickly successful.   A $25,000.00 down payment was raised within one week of the initial request and the property at 2315 Huff Street was purchased.  The first service at the Huff Street location was celebrated December 18, 1994.

At the January 1, 1995 congregational meeting the First Board of Directors was elected. The board consisted of Thad Fulk, Bob Horton, Jack Mowery and Sam Samuel.

Rev. Phil Carpenter served as worship coordinator from 1997 – 1998.

Rev. Ken Hull was called as the first full time pastor in January 1999. He led the congregation until July, 2004

God’s blessings were evident throughout the life to MCC of WS.  Our Creator’s love was strongly demonstrated in July of 1999 when the mortgage for the Huff Street property was paid off. Founding Father Reverend Elder Troy Perry was the guest speaker of the mortgage burning celebration.

Rev. Mark Byrd was called as pastor in February 2005.  Under his leadership and at the urging of the Board of Directors, the church stepped forward in faith and purchased the present building. God’s blessing was again evident as the Huff St. Property sold quickly and allowed the purchase of the current property.   Rev. Byrd resigned his position and left MCC of WS in August 2006.

Rev. Joe Cobb was called as our new Pastor in January 7, 2007, and on March 18, began his work at MCC of WS.  Through the transition, our congregation  have drawn closer to one another and to God. Everyone is stepping up and helping with the daily ministries of the church.  Once more God’s blessing’s are truly evident.
